Hot Color Trends in Design Remodeling Projects

Colors are seen everywhere in life, and so it’s no surprise that color trends are constantly changing whether it be in fashion or throughout home designs. As a design build company, we often can tell what the hot color trends are for the year, or even take notice that previous trends are circling back. In this blog post, we’ll look at three popular color trends and maybe they will give you inspiration for your own design goals.

Dark and Earthy (Royal Blue and Forest Green)

In recent years, many homeowners have been more adventurous with their overall design styles and vibes. There has been an overall uptick in homes embracing a darker and moodier, or overall earthier feel to their living spaces. For example, a rich royal blue and a dark forest green have been a popular color palate seen throughout kitchen remodels, with the cabinets being a dark blue or green while the countertops and walls are white. At first this may seem like an odd pairing, but the cool colors will truly elevate the room and make the space pop.

Bright and Cheery (Yellow and Orange)

Similarly to the trend of many people being more willing to experiment with cool colors, the same can be said with brighter and cheerier colors like yellows and oranges that adopt a breath of fresh air and sunshine into their spaces. Most often, bright colors have noticeably been used as accent wall features to add a pop of color to the overall design that will stand out in the space. Like trends coming back, yellow used to be a popular color choice typically used in kitchens throughout the 1950s-70s, before it fell away. Today, it isn’t typically seen in kitchens, but it is often used in bathrooms and bedrooms.

Unique Colorful Patterns

With homeowners more willing to experiment and play with color trends throughout their homes, it should come as no surprise that the use of unique color patterns throughout home design is surging to popularity as well. For example, in place of solid color ceramic tiles being used for kitchen backsplashes or as bathroom flooring, tiles with geometric shapes or various patterns on them have been the more distinctive choice. Similarly, wallpaper has been a trend that has resurged in recent years, many homeowners choosing bright and busy design patterns to make their homes feel like their own. Whether you choose to lean into newer trends, or embrace the newness, your home should always be an expression of your own personal tastes and interests.

Although color trends are always changing, it’s interesting to see how some trends circulate back into popularity after years of them falling away to the back burner. Whether you prefer dark and earthy or bright and cheery, there is a color theme for you. You would be amazed to see how much of a difference some painting and a change of color can make to a space.
